Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has urged the Igbo community and Nigerians at large to remain calm following the life imprisonment sentence handed to Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, on terrorism charges.
The minister made the appeal in a statement posted on her verified X account on Friday.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu noted that while the outcome of the trial was neither expected nor desired, it is now a reality that must be acknowledged. She cautioned against any actions that could inflame tensions within Nigeria or among Nigerians in the diaspora.
“There comes a time in the history of a people when calm is needed. I therefore urge Ndigbo and Nigerians as a whole to recognize that this is such a moment. It is crucial that we exercise restraint in responding to this situation.
“All actions that could be considered incendiary or capable of escalating tensions at home or abroad should be avoided. A word is enough for the wise,” she said.
