Tyson Fury Reacts to Anthony Joshua’s Road Accident as Mega-Fight Uncertainty Grows

Tyson Fury has spoken out following the fatal road accident in Nigeria involving former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, which also claimed the lives of two people close to the boxer.

Fury, a former world heavyweight title holder and a potential opponent for Joshua in a proposed £100 million showdown, shared a message of sympathy on his Instagram story after news of the crash emerged. The accident reportedly claimed the lives of Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, both described as key members of Joshua’s inner circle.

“This is so sad. May God give them a good bed in heaven,” Fury wrote in reference to the victims.

The accident occurred on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway when a Lexus SUV was said to have collided at high speed with a stationary truck. Joshua, who was travelling in the vehicle, sustained injuries and was taken to hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.

Fury also reposted a video clip of Joshua reflecting on life and mortality, using the moment to highlight how fragile life can be. The British boxer went on to issue a broader warning on road safety, particularly to young people.

He urged drivers to remain alert at all times, warning against speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, which he said often result in fatal outcomes. “Life is most fragile when you’re enjoying yourself the most,” Fury noted.

In a separate message, Fury’s father, John Fury, also offered words of encouragement to Joshua, saying he appeared to have a “guardian angel” watching over him.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps confirmed that preliminary findings suggested the crash occurred during an overtaking attempt and involved excessive speed, both of which were identified as major causes of fatal accidents on Nigerian roads.

Joshua remains under medical supervision as investigations continue. Tributes have continued to pour in for Ayodele and Ghami, who were widely described as integral members of “Team AJ” and important figures in the boxer’s career.
