'Bury me within four weeks of death,' Fayose directs

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has made it clear that his remains should be laid to rest within four weeks of his passing. Fayose also shared specific instructions for his burial, emphasizing that no one should visit after the burial.

According to the former governor, his body and funeral arrangements are to be overseen by the Ekiti State Government.

In a six-minute video released on YouTube by City Edge TV on Saturday, Fayose—who turns 65 today—stated:
“Remember me for anything. And when I die, let me say this. Death is inevitable. My body belongs to the Ekiti State Government… I’m delivering a letter to the governor.”

Fayose insisted that the government should take responsibility for his remains, regardless of when his death occurs.

“Whether it’s in 20, 30, or 15 years—whenever God decides—the Ekiti State Government should take charge of my body. I must be buried within four weeks. Since the state may not prepare everything within two or three days, I give them four weeks.”

He added that his children should wear their own clothes to his burial and comply with government directives.

Regarding his final resting place, Fayose revealed:
“My grandmother’s home—the mother of my father—I’ve prepared the garden there. That’s where I should be buried. After my burial, no one should visit. Let me rest in peace. If you want to show me love, do it now.”

The channel also shared a 20-minute video of legendary juju musician King Sunny Ade performing for Fayose at his birthday thanksgiving celebration, as the former governor danced on stage.

Reactions

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, described Fayose as “a valuable friend and brother who is always sincere in his views,” adding:
“Ayodele, my younger brother, may you live to the age of your elder brother in good health. May God continue to bless your days on earth.”

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, also congratulated Fayose through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode. He praised Fayose’s “remarkable contributions” to the state, calling him “a grassroots leader, a respected mobiliser, and a statesman committed to a more prosperous state and nation.”
