St. Mary’s Catholic School Kidnapping: Niger CAN Confirms 227 Abducted

The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger State chapter, Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, has confirmed that a total of 227 individuals—comprising teachers and students—were abducted from St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Niger State.

Yohanna, who also serves as the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, disclosed this in a statement released through his media aide, Mr. Dan Atori, in Minna.

According to him, the victims include 215 pupils and students, along with 12 teachers.

He noted that some students managed to escape during the assault, and parents have already begun taking their children home. The school has since been closed.

Yohanna added that CAN is collaborating with the government and security agencies to ensure the safe return of those abducted. He called for calm and prayers, assuring that efforts are ongoing to secure their release.

The attack occurred on Friday, November 21, 2025, and security personnel are currently engaged in rescue operations.
