Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has tipped Brazil as the team to beat at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
However, the legendary coach believes Portugal, led by Cristiano Ronaldo, could be the side capable of stopping the South American giants and lifting the trophy.
Ferguson described Brazil, now under the guidance of former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, as one of the strongest contenders for the title, noting that the five-time world champions possess all the qualities needed to win the tournament.
Speaking to Press Box PR, Ferguson reflected on his experience working with Brazilian players during his time at Manchester United, particularly twins Rafael and Fabio.
“Portugal have good players. But whenever I think about the World Cup, Brazil always come to mind,” he said. “I had two young Brazilian lads, the twins Rafael and Fabio. I believe whoever manages to beat Brazil will go on to win the World Cup.”
Argentina are the reigning champions, having defeated France in the 2022 final in Qatar, a match headlined by Paris Saint-Germain stars Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé.
