2027: Elections aren’t decided on Facebook or Twitter — Shettima

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has said President Bola Tinubu’s record in office is strong enough to guarantee his re-election in 2027.

Shettima made the statement while addressing the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

According to the vice-president, election outcomes are shaped by solid political structures and credible leadership, not by online conversations or social media debates.

“Elections are not won by noise or nostalgia,” he said. “They are not conducted on Facebook or Twitter. Elections are won through coalitions, credibility and conviction.”

He maintained that Tinubu’s political experience and governance record give him a clear edge over any prospective challenger, arguing that anyone seeking to run against the president in 2027 is already setting themselves up for defeat.

“With the experience of our president as our shield and the lessons of the past as our guide, I believe 2027 is not a gamble but a responsibility,” Shettima said. “And by the grace of God, we shall enjoy a renewed mandate.”

Shettima, however, acknowledged Nigeria’s democratic framework, noting that every qualified citizen has the constitutional right to contest elections.

He added that the APC is approaching the 2027 general elections with confidence, pointing to what he described as the party’s strong leadership structure and record in governance.
