Social media personality Mary Magdalene, whose real name was Denise Ivonne Jarvis Gongora, has died in Thailand.
The 33-year-old Mexican-Canadian influencer passed away after falling from the ninth-floor balcony of a condominium in Patong on December 9, shortly after checking in for a one-night stay, according to Phuket News.
Hotel staff discovered her in the building’s parking area around 1:30 pm, Police Capt. Channarong Prakongkuea confirmed. Her body was taken from Patong Hospital to Vachira Phuket Hospital for a full autopsy. Authorities initially withheld her identity until her family was notified.
Hours before her death, Mary posted a clip from The Truman Show along with a childhood photo on one of her Instagram accounts. She also changed the name of another account to “MaryMagdaleneDied.”
Tributes soon began to appear online from friends and fellow public figures, including musician Kreayshawn, RuPaul’s Drag Race star Plane Jane, and influencer Eden the Doll. Her brother, Ivan, also shared a heartfelt message, expressing love and regret.
Mary gained a large online following through her dramatic cosmetic transformation and frequent discussions about her personal journey. She had spoken openly in interviews about difficult experiences during her early teenage years and her time working in adult entertainment before shifting to online content creation.
She underwent numerous cosmetic procedures over the years, some of which resulted in complications. She also travelled internationally for surgeries and had previously discussed health issues connected to those procedures.
Authorities in Thailand are continuing their investigation to determine the official cause of death.
