Jake Paul has revealed that he underwent surgery to repair a broken jaw sustained during his knockout defeat to former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua on Friday night in Miami.
The highly anticipated fight, streamed live on Netflix, concluded in the sixth round when Joshua landed a powerful right hand that sent Paul crashing to the canvas at the Kaseya Center. The punch not only ended the bout but also caused a confirmed jaw fracture, according to the New York Post.
Immediately after the fight, Paul suspected his jaw was broken. Later, he took to social media to confirm he had undergone surgery.
“Just got out of surgery. Everything went smoothly,” Paul wrote. “Lots of pain and stiffness. I have to eat liquids for seven days. Two titanium plates on each side. Some teeth removed.”
He also expressed gratitude to the medical team at Miami University Hospital for their care.
Despite the loss, Paul exceeded expectations by avoiding major damage in the first four rounds and landing several punches of his own. However, he struggled in the fifth round, suffering two knockdowns, followed by two more in the sixth, prompting the referee to stop the fight.
The defeat means Paul will spend time recovering before returning to the ring, while Joshua continues his career with renewed momentum.
