Liverpool record signing Alexander Isak undergoes surgery after leg fracture

Premier League champions Liverpool have confirmed that their record signing, Alexander Isak, has successfully undergone surgery after fracturing his fibula.

The Sweden international sustained the injury moments after scoring the opening goal in Liverpool’s 2–1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday night.

Isak was injured when Spurs defender Micky van de Ven caught him shortly after he struck the ball into the net. The 26-year-old received treatment on the pitch for his left leg but was unable to continue and was forced off.

Liverpool have not given a specific timeline for his return, but the £125 million forward underwent surgery on Monday and is expected to be sidelined for several months.

In a statement, the club said: “Alexander Isak today successfully underwent surgery on the injury he sustained on Saturday.

“The striker was hurt in a challenge while scoring the opening goal against Tottenham Hotspur and had to be substituted. Following assessment, an operation was carried out on an ankle injury that included a fibula fracture.

“Isak will now begin his rehabilitation at the AXA Training Centre, with no return date set.”

The injury represents a major setback for Isak, who has already faced fitness challenges since joining Liverpool. He completed a high-profile move to Anfield in the summer, arriving from Newcastle United in a deal reported to be worth up to £130 million.
