Man United pushed for my exit last summer, it hurt me – Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has revealed that the club wanted him to leave during the summer transfer window.

The Portuguese midfielder was strongly linked with a move to Saudi Arabia ahead of the new season but ultimately chose to remain at Old Trafford, citing his affection for the club and family considerations.

“The club wanted me to leave [in the summer]; that’s something I carry with me,” Fernandes said, according to Mais Futebol.

“I told the directors how I felt, but I think they didn’t have the courage to make that decision openly.

“I chose to stay, partly for family reasons, but mainly because I truly love the club. My discussions with the manager also played a big role in my decision.

“However, from the club’s perspective, I felt like my departure wouldn’t have been a major issue for them.

“That really hurts. More than that, it makes me sad because I’m a player who gives everything. I’m always available, I play every game whether I’m performing well or not.

“When you then look around and see players who don’t value or defend the club as much, it’s disappointing. That’s what makes it painful.”
