President Tinubu holds talks with Abia State governor, Alex Otti, on the Nnamdi Kanu issue

President Bola Tinubu on December 2 held a meeting with Abia State governor, Alex Otti, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, focusing on the ongoing push to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the convicted leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The discussion comes just days after Governor Otti visited Kanu at a correctional facility in Sokoto State, where he is serving a life sentence. Otti was accompanied by Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu; Abia State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN); and his media aide, Ferdinand Ekeoma. Officials from the Sokoto State Government were also present.

Governor Otti had earlier reaffirmed that his administration is committed to a coordinated plan aimed at securing Kanu’s release, calling the issue a top priority for Abia State.

“While Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has the right to challenge his conviction, I’m pleased to say that we have activated — and will keep pursuing — the agreed strategy to ensure his eventual release,” Otti stated through his spokesperson.

Tuesday’s meeting with President Tinubu is viewed as another step in the broader political and legal efforts to resolve the matter.
