U.S. President Donald Trump has been honoured as the inaugural recipient of the FIFA Peace Prize during the 2026 World Cup draw held in Washington, D.C.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino presented the award at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, stating that Trump was chosen “in recognition of his exceptional and extraordinary actions to promote peace and unity across the globe.”

While handing over the trophy, medal, and certificate, Infantino told Trump, “This is your prize, this is your peace prize. There is also a beautiful medal for you that you can wear anywhere you go.”

FIFA describes the Peace Prize as an honour reserved for individuals who foster peace and unity through consistent commitment and meaningful action. The organisation has not released details about the nomination or selection process, though reports indicate that a new “social responsibility” committee—chaired by Myanmar businessman Zaw Zaw—will outline procedures for future awards.

In his acceptance speech, Trump described the recognition as “one of the greatest honours of my life.” He went on to claim that his administration had “saved millions and millions of lives,” citing the Democratic Republic of Congo as an example, along with tensions between India and Pakistan and other conflicts he said were resolved or prevented.

Trump also applauded Infantino for record-breaking ticket sales and said the 2026 World Cup would be “an event the world may never have seen before.”

He concluded by declaring, “The world is a safer place now… we’re the hottest country anywhere in the world.”
