Senegal and Ivory Coast Fans Risk Missing 2026 World Cup Over Trump’s New Travel Ban

Supporters from Senegal and the Ivory Coast could be barred from traveling to the United States for the 2026 FIFA World Cup following new travel restrictions introduced by President Donald Trump.

The development comes after Trump signed a proclamation imposing fresh travel bans on both countries. Senegal and Ivory Coast were recently drawn into Groups I and E respectively in the expanded 48-team tournament, but their fans may be unable to attend matches scheduled to take place in the US.

On Tuesday, the Trump administration announced a partial travel ban on Senegalese and Ivorian nationals, suspending their entry into the country. The move adds to existing restrictions affecting citizens of Iran and Haiti, two other nations also set to feature in the World Cup.

Under the ban, both immigrant and non-immigrant entry into the US is prohibited, including tourist and business visas—categories typically required for fans traveling to attend the tournament.

The initial order, issued in June, was titled “Restricting the Entry of Foreign Nationals to Protect the United States from Foreign Terrorists and Other National Security and Public Safety Threats.”

The restrictions are expected to impact supporters rather than the teams themselves, with exemptions reportedly in place for players, officials, support staff, and immediate family members.

The 2026 World Cup is scheduled to take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico between June and July.
