Suspected thugs have allegedly assaulted and stripped Don Pedro Obaseki, the Chief Executive Officer of Hosamudia Farm, in Benin City, Edo State.
A video circulating online on Sunday shows Obaseki being attacked at Uwa Primary School, where he had reportedly gone to play football. Obaseki, who is a cousin of former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, was said to have been taken to the Oba of Benin’s Palace and forced to kneel at the palace gate.
According to reports, the assailants told palace guards that they had brought an Oghion—described as an enemy of the Oba.
Some palace chiefs, who later confronted the suspected thugs in the Bini language, explained that the Oba was on his way to the Holy Arousa Cathedral for a thanksgiving service marking the end of the Igue festival.
One of the chiefs reportedly cautioned against causing trouble, noting that the day was set aside for thanksgiving and peace.
Despite resistance from the suspected thugs, the palace chiefs eventually took Obaseki into the palace for safety.
More details are expected to emerge.
