Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi and his OGC Nice teammate have taken legal action after being assaulted by their own supporters following the club’s 3–1 loss to Lorient on Sunday, November 30.
When the team bus returned to the club’s training complex, roughly 400 angry fans were waiting. According to Tribuna, both Moffi and Jeremie Boga were punched, kicked, spat on, and subjected to racist abuse. Some of the attacks reportedly targeted their groins. Moffi had played the full match, while Boga came on as a substitute.
Boga has since been placed on a five-day leave, and Moffi is expected to remain sidelined until next Sunday. Moffi reportedly had to be assisted by goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf while entering the training facility.
Although players had been warned to expect hostility after leaving the airport, they still proceeded to the training ground. Two fan representatives were allowed onto the bus to voice their complaints, but the situation escalated as they disembarked.
Reports claim Boga was targeted for inviting Marseille supporters to a recent match—an incident that later led to mockery of Nice fans—while Moffi was allegedly seen laughing with former Lorient star Loïc Rémy after Sunday’s defeat.
Sporting director Florian Maurice was also reportedly attacked despite the presence of security personnel.
Nice, owned by Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, currently sits 10th in Ligue 1 after six straight losses.
In a statement confirming the incident, the club said:
“Upon their return from Lorient, the Eagles were met by a large crowd. While the club understands the frustration caused by recent poor results, the incidents that occurred are unacceptable. Several members of the club were targeted. OGC Nice fully supports them and strongly condemns these acts.”
