President Bola Tinubu has put forward the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), for appointment as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence.
The nomination follows the resignation of former Defence Minister Mohammed Abubakar Badaru, who stepped down on Monday, November 1, 2025, citing health concerns.
According to a statement released on Tuesday, December 1, by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu formally notified Senate President Godswill Akpabio of General Musa’s nomination to replace Badaru.
General Musa, who turns 58 on December 25, previously served as CDS from 2023 until October 2025 and is a recipient of the 2012 Colin Powell Award for Soldiering.
In his communication to the Senate, President Tinubu expressed strong confidence in Musa’s capacity to head the Defence Ministry and enhance the nation’s security framework.
