Burkina Faso have parted ways with head coach Brama Traore and his entire technical team after the Stallions were knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations by arch-rivals Ivory Coast.
Announcing the decision on Wednesday, January 14, Burkina Faso Football Federation president Oumarou Sawadogo said the move was prompted by results that fell “far short of expectations” at the continental tournament.
Sawadogo labeled the campaign a “bitter disappointment,” stressing that the team had targeted at least a semi-final appearance. Burkina Faso also missed out on qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Stallions were thrashed 3–0 by defending champions Ivory Coast in Marrakesh on Monday. Manchester United winger Amad Diallo opened the scoring and set up Yan Diomande for the second before halftime, while substitute Bazoumana Toure sealed the victory late on.
In the group stage, Burkina Faso secured victories against Sudan and Equatorial Guinea but suffered defeat to Algeria.
Traore, 63, had taken charge in March 2024, succeeding French coach Hubert Velud, who was dismissed following a round-of-16 exit at the previous AFCON.
