Mozambique Promises Hefty Bonuses for Victory Over Nigeria

Mozambique’s national team has been promised a special incentive of 500,000 meticais—equivalent to about ₦11.3 million—if they defeat Nigeria in the round of 16 at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The pledge was made by President Daniel Francisco Chapo, who commended the Mambas for reaching the knockout stage of the 2025 AFCON.

Mozambique secured a place in the round of 16 after finishing third in Group F, despite suffering a 2–1 defeat to Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions in their final group match.

In a message to the players and coaching crew, the president applauded their overall group-stage performance, describing their qualification as a remarkable achievement that has filled the nation with pride.

Speaking on behalf of the Mozambican people, Chapo praised the team’s courage, determination, and hard work, noting that their efforts had delivered a historic milestone for the country on the continental stage.

According to Jornal Notícias, the president further announced that each player and member of the technical crew would receive an additional 500,000 meticais if they overcome the Super Eagles and advance to the quarter-finals.

He reiterated that the entire nation stands behind the team and expressed confidence in their ability to overcome Nigeria.

Nigeria and Mozambique are scheduled to clash at the Complexe Sportif de Fès on Monday, January 5.
