Netanyahu announces ‘new front’ to support persecuted Christian communities in Nigeria and beyond (Video)

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced plans for Israel to open a “new front” aimed at supporting and protecting Christian communities facing persecution in parts of Africa and the Middle East, including Nigeria.

Netanyahu made the announcement in his New Year’s message shared on his official YouTube channel, where he addressed an audience of Christian Zionists.

He explained that Israel is broadening its focus beyond direct military engagements to confront what he described as global threats to Judeo-Christian values. According to him, after recently fighting what he called a “seven-front war” and emerging largely successful, Israel is now facing an additional challenge.

The prime minister said this new front is centred on shaping public opinion, particularly among young people, describing it as a struggle for “hearts and minds.”

“I see the battle against us and the battle against our Judeo-Christian tradition being waged around the world,” Netanyahu said.

He identified radical Shiite and Sunni Islamist movements as the main forces behind this struggle, naming Iran and the Muslim Brotherhood as leading opposing blocs. Netanyahu claimed that Israel plays a unique role in safeguarding Christian communities and supporting their growth and security.

He further announced that Israel is working with other nations to form a coalition, similar in structure to the United Nations, to provide support for Christian communities worldwide, especially those under threat.

According to Netanyahu, Christians are facing persecution in several regions, including the Middle East, Europe, Africa and countries such as Syria, Lebanon, Nigeria and Turkey.

Describing the initiative as an act of reciprocity, he said Israel intends to give back to those who have supported it.

“Just as you are helping us, we want to help in return, and we have the capacity to do so,” he said, noting that Israel would contribute through intelligence support in Africa and other undisclosed means in the Middle East.

“This is our agenda, and it is a central part of what we intend to pursue,” he added.
