NFF Confirms Eric Chelle to Continue as Super Eagles Coach Beyond 2025 AFCON

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Ibrahim Gusau, has confirmed that Eric Chelle will remain the head coach of the Super Eagles following Nigeria’s third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

Although the federation had initially set a target for Chelle to reach the final and win the tournament, Nigeria fell short of that goal, losing to hosts Morocco in the semi-finals before securing the bronze medal.

Reacting after the competition, Gusau praised the team’s development under Chelle and reiterated the NFF’s commitment to maintaining continuity as the Super Eagles build on their recent progress.

According to Gusau, the team is nearing a level where it can perform seamlessly, expressing confidence that significant success lies ahead under the current technical crew. He added that the federation is proud of the team’s showing and will continue to offer full support, encouragement, and motivation going forward.

Gusau also commended Chelle’s impact since taking charge, noting that the coach has delivered impressive results within just one year. He described Chelle as highly capable and affirmed that the NFF will continue to work closely with him.

Nigeria clinched third place at the tournament after defeating Egypt 4–2 on penalties in the bronze medal match, following a goalless draw at the Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca on Saturday.
