The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two women in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area, for allegedly trafficking a 16-year-old girl to Ghana.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga stated on Tuesday in Awka that operatives from the Ozubulu Division acted on technology-based intelligence and apprehended the suspects, Uzoma Nwabueze and Precious Monday, on the evening of January 26.
The suspects were arrested following reports of the disappearance of Miss Oluebube Chukwuma, a 16-year-old girl from Ozubulu. During questioning, the women admitted their involvement and revealed that the victim had been taken to Ghana.
Following the arrests, the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka. Police have been instructed to investigate the trafficking network, trace the minor, and identify all individuals involved for possible arrest.
