Alausa Addresses Rumours Of Resigning To Run For Lagos Governor

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has refuted reports suggesting he plans to resign in order to contest the Lagos State governorship election.

An online publication had claimed, quoting an unnamed source, that Alausa was weighing the option of stepping down to concentrate on his alleged governorship ambition.

Responding on Wednesday, the minister dismissed the report as untrue. He noted that he attended the Federal Executive Council meeting and has no plans to vacate his position.

Alausa reaffirmed his commitment to his responsibilities at the Federal Ministry of Education and urged the public to ignore the speculation about his possible resignation.

“We’re still hard at work here at the FME, don’t believe the rumours 😌,” he wrote on X.

His statement comes amid increasing political conversations ahead of the next governorship election in Lagos State.

In a related development, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, Cornelius Ojelabi, has secured a second term in office.

Ojelabi was returned unopposed during the party’s state congress held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, formerly known as Onikan Stadium. Over 2,000 delegates across the state endorsed the new executive through a consensus arrangement.

Party leaders described the congress as peaceful and well-organised, further strengthening Lagos’ influence within the ruling party’s structure.
