Nigeria born Borussia Dortmund midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka has officially changed his international allegiance from England to Austria.



The 22-year-old, who was born in Vienna to Nigerian parents, is now eligible to represent Austria at the 2026 FIFA World Cup later this year.

Chukwuemeka previously played for England at youth level but has now decided to commit his senior international career to Austria after completing FIFA’s approval process for the switch.

With the change now confirmed, he could make his first appearance for Austria later this month in international friendlies against Ghana on March 27 and South Korea on March 31.

Austria, under manager Ralf Rangnick, will compete in Group J at the World Cup alongside defending champions Argentina, Jordan, and Algeria.

At the international level, Chukwuemeka will join a squad featuring notable players such as David Alaba, Marcel Sabitzer, Konrad Laimer, and Marko Arnautović.
