Former Kano State Governor and Senator, Ibrahim Shekarau, has officially stepped down from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing a strategic political shift.
In a resignation letter dated April 19, 2026, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Giginyu Ward in Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, Shekarau stated that his resignation takes immediate effect.
“Kindly accept this letter as formal notice of my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) effective today,” he wrote.
The former minister explained that his decision came after wide-ranging consultations with his political associates, hinting at plans to align with another party.
“This decision is the outcome of extensive deliberations within my political circle as we prepare to continue our political journey under a different platform,” Shekarau said.
He also expressed gratitude to the ward leadership, saying, “I appreciate your leadership and pray that Allah continues to guide you in your responsibilities.”
Copies of the resignation letter were forwarded to the Kano State PDP Chairman and the PDP Chairman of Nassarawa Local Government Area, signaling formal communication across party structures.
