The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has joined UEFA and CONCACAF in opposing FIFA's proposal to sell a stake in the FIFA World Cup to private investors.
In a statement released on Friday, the AFC, which represents 47 member associations, expressed "serious concerns" over FIFA's plan to introduce private investment into its flagship competitions.
The confederation argued that FIFA President Gianni Infantino's proposed $20 billion commercial subsidiary, backed by New York-based investor Joshua Kushner, lacks the broad support needed to move forward and should be reconsidered.
The AFC also urged FIFA to urgently review its governance and decision-making process.
The development comes after UEFA unanimously voted to boycott all FIFA tournaments under the proposal, while CONCACAF also rejected the investment plan, citing growing divisions within global football.
Despite the opposition, FIFA insisted it would continue consulting its 211 member associations, dismissing reports that it was "selling football" and maintaining that any decision would ultimately depend on member approval.
