Super Eagles Rise to 38th as Spain Takes Top Spot in Latest FIFA Rankings

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have climbed three places in the latest FIFA rankings, despite missing out on qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Previously ranked 41st in October, the team now occupies 38th position globally, according to the updated FIFA rankings released on Thursday, November 20.

Within Africa, Nigeria remains in fifth place, trailing behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria.

During the ranking period, the Super Eagles played two matches: they defeated Gabon’s Panthers 4–1 in the playoff semi-final, but later fell 4–3 on penalties to the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Leopards in the final.

On the global stage, Spain retains the number-one position, followed by Argentina, France, and England. Brazil climbed two spots to fifth, moving ahead of both the Netherlands and Portugal. Portugal dropped to sixth, the Netherlands to seventh, Belgium stayed eighth, while Germany and Croatia completed the top ten
