Benue State Has Insecurity, Not Genocide — Gov. Alia

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has dismissed allegations suggesting that any form of genocide is taking place in the state. Speaking at a public event, the governor—who emphasized that he remains a Reverend Father—said he cannot misrepresent the security situation because he works with the fear of God.

He acknowledged that Benue State faces security challenges but firmly rejected claims of religious, ethnic, racial, national, or state-targeted genocide.

In his words:

"I am a Reverend Father, and being in government has not changed that. I assumed office as a Reverend Father, and I am working with the fear of God and the compassion of Christianity and humanity. At the end of the day, I remain a Reverend Father and a Christian.

In Benue State, we do not have any religious, ethnic, racial, national, or state genocide. We don’t have that. Do we have insecurity in the state? Yes, we do—but it is not genocide."
