Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has acknowledged that Arsenal may become “difficult to catch” in the Premier League title race if they manage to extend their lead at the top.
City have an opportunity to close the gap to just one point when they face Newcastle United in Saturday’s late fixture.
Speaking ahead of the match, Guardiola cautioned his players about the importance of keeping close to Mikel Arteta’s side, who take on Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
“Arsenal are an impeccable team,” Guardiola said.
“If they open up a bigger gap in points, it will be very hard to catch them — similar to how things unfolded with Liverpool last season.”
Liverpool ultimately finished 10 points above Arsenal in the previous campaign.
