Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has refuted reports claiming he has withdrawn from the 2027 presidential race, describing such claims as false and deceptive.
Atiku, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, was alleged in some reports to have stepped down in favour of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s flagbearer in the same election. The reports also suggested that Atiku had endorsed a single-term presidency for Obi to promote regional balance.
Reacting to the claims, Atiku’s media adviser, Paul Ibe, firmly dismissed them as fake news. On Saturday, December 27, Ibe shared a screenshot of the report on his verified X account, bluntly stating: “Fake news: Not on the menu!”
Meanwhile, there are indications that Peter Obi is planning to officially defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
