The election took place on Saturday during the Guild’s annual general meeting in Benin, Edo State. Rita was defeated by the AGN’s National Secretary, actor Abubakar Yakubu, who will now succeed Emeka Rollas as President.
Yakubu won with 116 votes, narrowly beating Rita, who received 113 votes, while three ballots were voided.
His emergence makes him the first actor from the North to lead the AGN since the Guild was founded in the 1990s.
The development follows recent remarks by Emeka Rollas, who suggested that Regina Daniels “needs help” and urged Rita to focus on her daughter’s well-being rather than contesting the AGN presidency.
