AFCON 2025 champions to pocket $10m as CAF raises prize money

The winners of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco will take home a record $10 million after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) approved an increase in prize money.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe announced the revised prize structure following a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee in Rabat, Morocco, ahead of the tournament.

The 2025 AFCON is scheduled to run from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.

According to CAF, the new winner’s prize represents a 43 per cent increase compared to the last edition, where host nation Côte d’Ivoire earned $7 million for lifting the trophy.

Overall, the prize money has doubled within four years. The champions of the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon received $5 million, which rose to $7 million at the 2023 tournament in Côte d’Ivoire, and has now climbed to $10 million for Morocco 2025 — a 100 per cent increase.

CAF also disclosed that the runners-up at AFCON 2025 will receive $4 million, while each of the two losing semi-finalists will earn $2.5 million.

The football governing body said the increment is part of its broader strategy to enhance the tournament’s value, competitiveness and global profile.
