Uganda head coach Paul Put has admitted that his side faces a daunting task against Nigeria’s Super Eagles as both teams prepare for their final Group C match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Cranes are set to take on the Nigerian giants on Tuesday in a decisive fixture that will determine their chances of advancing in the tournament.
Uganda are under pressure to secure all three points to keep their hopes of reaching the Round of 16 alive, having managed just one point from their opening games against Tunisia and Tanzania.
Nigeria, on the other hand, have already booked a place in the knockout stage and need only a draw from the encounter to finish top of the group.
Put, a Belgian tactician, acknowledged the magnitude of the challenge, conceding that overcoming a team of Nigeria’s quality would be extremely difficult.
Nevertheless, he has called on his players to remain focused and resilient despite the situation.
“I’ve told the players that we must continue to believe and fight until the last game,” Put said ahead of the clash. “We’re disappointed with our results, but we have to reset and prepare properly for Nigeria. It won’t be easy.”
He added that while the earlier outcomes were frustrating, the team must put them behind and approach the final group match with determination and intensity until the final whistle.
