Andrew formally stripped of his final royal honours

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has officially lost his remaining royal titles, even as his departure from Royal Lodge faces a delay.

According to The Sun, King Charles has ordered the removal of Andrew’s membership in the Order of the Garter — the country’s highest order of chivalry — and cancelled his status as a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order.

This latest round of revoked honours comes only weeks after the disgraced royal was stripped of his Duke of York and Prince titles and agreed to vacate Royal Lodge. However, his move is now expected to be pushed to February as he struggles to downsize.

The cancellations, approved on October 30, were formally published in the London Gazette at midday. Andrew had previously consented to relinquish his place in the Order of the Garter.

The notices read in part:

  • That Andrew Albert Christian Edward Mountbatten-Windsor’s appointment as a Knight Companion of the Order of the Garter, granted on 23 April 2006, “shall be cancelled and annulled” and his name removed from the Order’s register.

  • That his appointment as a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order, dated 19 February 2011, “shall be cancelled and annulled” with his name erased from that register as well.

His coat of arms has already been taken down from St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

With these latest revocations, Andrew is left holding just one remaining honour: his rank of vice-admiral in the Royal Navy — a title the government has pledged to remove at the King’s request. Defence Secretary John Healey confirmed that officials will “work to remove” the honorary rank, which only the government, not the monarch, has the authority to withdraw.

Andrew served in the Royal Navy for 22 years, including flying helicopters during the Falklands War. He received the honorary vice-admiral rank in February 2015 on his 55th birthday.
