Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has been excluded from Cameroon’s squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
The 29-year-old, currently on loan at Turkish side Trabzonspor after being moved out by United manager Ruben Amorim, was a surprising omission when Cameroon released their squad list on Monday.
His exclusion comes as a major shock, as Onana was widely expected to play a key role for the Indomitable Lions at the tournament in Morocco, which kicks off on December 21.
Premier League players Bryan Mbeumo of Manchester United and Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba were included in the squad.
The announcement coincided with the Cameroon Football Federation’s decision to sack head coach Marc Brys, just three weeks before their opening AFCON match against Gabon. David Pagou has been appointed as his replacement.
Onana has made 53 appearances for the Cameroonian national team.
