CAF fines Egypt $5,000 for AFCON media breach

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined the Egypt national football team $5,000 for failing to meet its media obligations following their opening match against Zimbabwe at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

According to CAF, players and technical staff bypassed post-match media duties by walking past journalists in the designated mixed zone without granting interviews. The governing body emphasized that teams are required to make players and officials available to the media after games, describing it as crucial for transparency and the promotion of the tournament.

In addition to the fine, CAF issued a warning to Egypt, noting that further violations could result in heavier sanctions. The body specifically highlighted Egypt’s upcoming match against South Africa, stating that compliance with media protocols would be closely monitored.

CAF stressed that media access is a non-negotiable part of AFCON regulations and pledged to enforce stricter penalties if Egypt fails to adhere. The incident has sparked online debate, with some fans criticizing Egypt’s behavior, while others felt the fine was insufficient.
