"N’Assembly directs provision of tax laws CTC

The National Assembly has ordered that Certified True Copies (CTCs) of the recently enacted Tax Reform Acts be made available to stakeholders and members of the public upon request.

This directive was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the Senate’s Director of Information, Bullah Audu Bi-Allah. The statement also revealed that the Assembly has begun probing allegations that some sections of the tax laws were altered after being passed by lawmakers and assented to by the President.

The laws in question include the Nigeria Tax Act, 2025; Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025; Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2025; and Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, 2025.

According to the statement, public concerns had emerged over discrepancies between the bills harmonised by both chambers, the versions assented to by the President, and those later published in the Official Gazette.

The leadership of the National Assembly said it was handling the matter strictly within its constitutional and legal authority, adding that relevant committees, in collaboration with management, had commenced an internal review to address the issues raised.

It explained that the review was being conducted in line with the Constitution, the Acts Authentication Act, established parliamentary procedures, and the Standing Orders of both chambers.

As part of the process, the Clerk to the National Assembly has been directed to facilitate the publication of the Acts in the Official Gazette and to issue certified true copies of the assented laws to any stakeholder or member of the public on request.

The Assembly stressed that the exercise was purely administrative and aimed at authenticating and accurately reflecting legislative decisions already taken, noting that it did not suggest any flaw in the legislative process or infringe on the responsibilities of other arms of government.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability, and due process, the National Assembly urged the public to allow its internal procedures to run their course without speculation.

The move comes amid growing controversy over the tax reforms, including calls by former Senate Leader Ali Ndume and several civil society groups for the suspension of the laws’ implementation, following claims that the gazetted versions differed from those passed by lawmakers.
