The President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has submitted a petition to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), accusing the Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Ahmed Farouk, of corruption and financial misconduct.
In the petition dated December 16 and addressed to the ICPC Chairman, Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN), Dangote called for Farouk’s arrest, investigation, and prosecution, alleging that he lives well beyond what his lawful income as a public official can support.
Dangote claimed that Farouk spent over $7 million on the education of his four children in various schools in Switzerland over six years—an expense he said is inconsistent with Farouk’s earnings from public service. He reportedly listed the names of the children, their schools, and the amounts paid to assist the ICPC in verifying the claims.
The petition further alleged that Farouk abused his position by using the NMDPRA to misappropriate and divert public funds for personal and private interests. Dangote argued that these actions contributed to recent protests and instability in the downstream petroleum sector.
According to Dangote, Farouk has spent his entire working life in Nigeria’s public sector, making it implausible that his legitimate income could cover the alleged overseas education expenses.
Describing the allegations as clear cases of abuse of office, breach of the Code of Conduct for public officers, corrupt enrichment, and embezzlement, Dangote cited Section 19 of the ICPC Act, which prescribes a five-year jail term without an option of fine upon conviction.
He urged the ICPC to act promptly, noting that the matter is already in the public domain and warning against delay. Dangote also stated his willingness to provide evidence to support his claims, expressing confidence that a thorough investigation would help safeguard the image of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
As of the time of reporting, neither the ICPC nor the Managing Director of NMDPRA has issued a response to the petition.
