An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Ogbon-Inu Taiwo Popoola, has died while on active duty in Ebonyi State.
According to The Nation, ACP Popoola passed away unexpectedly around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 16, during a management meeting at the office of the Commissioner of Police in Abakaliki, the state capital.
At the time of his death, he was serving as the officer in charge of the State Intelligence Department (SID).
Eyewitnesses reported that the officer suddenly experienced breathing difficulties and began gasping during the meeting. He was quickly taken to the Police Medical Centre at the Police Headquarters in Abakaliki, where medical staff attended to him immediately.
Despite resuscitation efforts, doctors later confirmed his death. Preliminary medical reports suggest that he died from cardiac arrest, linked to hypertensive heart disease.
His body has been taken to the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital (AE-FUTHA 1) mortuary in Abakaliki.
Confirming the incident, Ebonyi State Police Command spokesperson Joshua Ukandu told reporters, “Yes, one of them had a crisis during a meeting and was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, he didn’t survive. He was not ill before the incident. If he were, he would not have attended the meeting.”
