Edo University Final-Year Student Dies in Motorcade Accident During Sign-Out Celebration

A final-year student of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, has lost his life in a motorcade accident that occurred during celebrations marking the end of his final examinations.

The incident happened on Monday, December 8, 2025, shortly after the signing-out activities. The student was part of a convoy of newly finished graduates who took to the highway to celebrate.

According to eyewitnesses, the group was driving recklessly and disregarded basic safety rules during the celebration. The accident occurred when the student tried to overtake a moving truck but crashed into a stationary vehicle parked along the road.

Confirming the development on Tuesday, December 9, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Edo State, Cyril Mathew, said one person died and five others sustained varying injuries.

“The students, after writing their last paper, formed a convoy. In the process, one of them attempted an overtaking manoeuvre and ran into a stationary truck,” he explained.

Mathew urged students to prioritise safety and avoid dangerous road celebrations, advising them to keep their activities within the campus environment.

“There is life after graduation,” he reminded them, stressing the importance of responsible behaviour during celebratory moments.
