Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have carried out coordinated searches on the Abuja and Kebbi offices, as well as the private residences, of former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page on December 17 by his media aide, Mohammed Doka, Malami said the operations took place on Tuesday, December 16, without prior notice. He stated that the searches were specifically aimed at retrieving documents allegedly linked to Chapter 9 of the Salami Report.
Describing the development as troubling, Malami said the raids followed shortly after a public call for the EFCC Chairman to step aside over alleged bias connected to Chapter 9. He warned that the actions raised serious concerns about intimidation, retaliation, and the safety of his staff and himself, adding that any harm to them should be blamed on this pattern of conduct.
Malami also urged Nigerians and the media to ask critical questions, including why the raids occurred immediately after references to Chapter 9, what authority permitted searches centred on that section of the Salami Report, why force and secrecy were used instead of due process, and why Chapter 9 remains controversial years after the report was submitted.
He further called on civil society groups, professional bodies, and human rights organisations to pressure the Federal Government, the Ministry of Justice, and the Office of the Attorney General to make public the Justice Ayo Salami Judicial Commission of Inquiry Report—especially Chapter 9—to promote transparency, accountability, and public trust.
