A member of the House of Representatives, Abdussamad Dasuki, has raised concerns over alleged alterations to the tax bills passed by both chambers of the National Assembly.
Speaking during Wednesday’s plenary session, Dasuki claimed that the gazetted version of the newly enacted tax laws currently in circulation contains clauses that differ from the harmonised version approved by the Senate and the House of Representatives.
According to him, his parliamentary privilege had been breached, as the laws published do not reflect what lawmakers voted on. He explained that after reviewing the gazetted copy over the past few days, he compared it with the official votes and proceedings of the House of Representatives and the Senate, which had been harmonised.
Dasuki told the House that the content approved on the floor was not the same as what was eventually gazetted, describing the discrepancy as alarming. He therefore called on the Speaker to carefully examine the harmonised version alongside the published copy to determine the differences.
He further alleged that the version being presented to the public through the Ministry of Information does not accurately represent the tax laws passed by both the House and the Senate.
