Fire Outbreak Sparks Panic at Arena Market in Lagos {VIDEO}

Traders at the popular Army Arena Market in Oshodi, Lagos, were gripped by panic on Tuesday evening following a major fire outbreak that razed several sections of the bustling market.

The fire reportedly broke out at about 6:00 p.m. Videos circulating on X (formerly Twitter) showed traders frantically rushing to rescue their goods as thick smoke spread across the market, while many cried out for help. Other footage captured firefighters battling the raging inferno at the scene.

As of the time of filing this report, there were no official confirmations regarding casualties or the estimated value of goods destroyed in the incident.

The Arena Market fire occurred barely a week after a similar incident at the popular Balogun Market in Lagos. On Christmas Eve, a fire that started at the Great Nigeria Insurance building on Martins Street spread rapidly to five other buildings, leaving traders counting heavy losses.

Tuesday’s incident was also not the first fire outbreak at Arena Market in 2025. In August, the market was hit by a devastating inferno that reportedly caused losses running into millions of naira. While reports attributed the August fire to a power surge, some traders disputed that claim.
