Abiya Appointed Acting NNPP Chairman in Kano

The internal crisis rocking the Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has intensified with the emergence of Abdullahi Zubairu Abiya as the party’s Acting State Chairman, following the removal of former chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa.

Abiya’s appointment followed the rejection of Dungurawa after his dismissal at the ward level and was later ratified by the NNPP State Executive Committee during an emergency meeting held at the party’s Kano secretariat.

The development was announced by the party’s Assistant Legal Adviser, Barrister Yusuf Mukhtar, who stated that the appointment complied fully with the provisions of the NNPP constitution.

According to party insiders, the decision stemmed from a formal resolution submitted by the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Executive Committee, which recommended Dungurawa’s removal and expulsion from the party.

Earlier, the Dawakin Tofa executive leadership, led by Hon. Abdullahi Ali Uban Iya Dawanau, had transmitted a resolution from the Gargari Ward Executive Committee to the state leadership. The resolution was adopted at the ward’s second executive meeting, held two weeks after the general election, where Dungurawa was accused of engaging in anti-party activities.

After deliberating on the report, the State Executive Committee upheld the ward’s decision and approved Abiya’s appointment as Acting State Chairman.

Party officials said the move was intended to restore discipline, promote unity, and reposition the NNPP for future political activities in Kano State.

Reacting to his appointment, the new Acting Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Zubairu Imam Abiya, pledged to uphold fairness among party members and reaffirmed the party’s loyalty to its national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf.
