Hollywood actor George Clooney, his wife Amal Clooney, and their twin children have been granted French citizenship, according to official government records, following the couple’s longstanding concerns about raising their family within the pressures of Hollywood.
A notice published in the French government gazette listing newly naturalised citizens includes George and Amal Clooney, along with their children, Alexander and Ella. George Clooney, who is also a U.S. citizen, and Amal, a British-Lebanese human rights lawyer, have strong ties to France, where the family owns a farm that serves as their main residence.
Although the Clooneys also maintain homes in the United Kingdom and in the United States near George Clooney’s family in Kentucky, the actor has frequently spoken about his desire to give his children a quieter and more ordinary upbringing. He has said that embracing a rural lifestyle has brought his family a sense of calm and normalcy away from the intense spotlight of celebrity life.
