Hollywood Legend Rob Reiner and His Wife: Cause of Death Officially Revealed

Hollywood icon Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner, have had the cause of their deaths officially disclosed following their son Nick Reiner’s first court appearance in connection with their double murder.

According to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, the couple died from “multiple sharp force injuries.”

Records indicate that the couple passed away on Sunday, the same day they were found in their $13.5 million mansion. Both deaths have been ruled homicides, with their residence listed as the place of death.

Nick Reiner was arrested that same day and charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his 78-year-old father and 70-year-old mother. Prosecutors added special circumstances, including multiple murders and the use of a deadly weapon—a knife—which could result in life imprisonment without parole or the death penalty if he is convicted.

The 32-year-old appeared briefly in court on Wednesday, wearing an anti-suicide vest, but did not enter a plea. His high-profile defense attorney, Alan Jackson, requested a continuance, explaining that he needed additional time to prepare the case. Nick agreed to the postponement, and his arraignment has been rescheduled for January 7. He is being held in custody without bail.

Following the hearing, Jackson urged the public to refrain from rushing to judgment, calling the case “a devastating tragedy” and emphasizing the complexity of the issues involved.

Shortly after, the couple’s other children, Romy and Jake, issued a heartfelt statement expressing their grief:

"Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends. We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but from people from all walks of life."
