I Gave Him My Blessing, But I Won’t Defect With Him — Gov Alex Otti on Peter Obi’s Move to ADC

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has ruled out defecting from the Labour Party despite the decision of his political ally and former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking with journalists on Tuesday, December 30, Otti clarified that his membership of the Labour Party predates Obi’s entry into the party. He noted that while Obi has chosen to leave for the ADC, he remains committed to the Labour Party.

According to the governor, Obi informed him of his decision and received his goodwill, but that does not mean he will follow the same path.

“If you recall, I joined the Labour Party before Peter Obi, so I didn’t come in with him,” Otti said. “He has told me about his decision to leave the party, and I gave him my blessing. However, I have chosen to continue the struggle to rescue the Labour Party, which is the platform that brought me to power.

“If, after exhausting all efforts, we are unable to reclaim the party, then we can begin to explore other options. But for now, I am not defecting with him.”
