Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has shared some of the unusual challenges she faced at the start of her acting journey.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, she said one of the biggest obstacles was being offered extreme and inappropriate scripts.
She recounted being given a script that required her to perform a scene involving sexual activity with a dog—an offer she immediately turned down because she feared it would damage her image, especially as her debut role.
“Even as a newcomer, I was handed a script to sleep with a dog. I rejected it instantly. How can my first movie be about that? It didn’t make sense,” she said. “People remember you for what you start with, and I didn’t want to be associated with something like that on screen.”
She added that while she refused the role, several other aspiring actresses quickly accepted it. “I’m not sure any of them are still visible in the industry today,” she noted.
Blessing revealed that shortly after leaving that audition, she met veteran filmmaker Emeka Duru, who expressed interest in working with her. He later facilitated her debut in the Emem Isong-produced film Through The Fire, which launched her career.
