I’ll leave politics after my tenure as governor — Otti

Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has reaffirmed his decision to step away from active politics once he completes his term in office, stressing that he harbours no ambition to contest for president, vice president or senator thereafter.

The governor made this known on Friday at the Government House in Umuahia while responding to a viral video in which an individual criticised him over his recent visit to Nnamdi Kanu at the Sokoto Correctional Centre, claiming the visit was driven by post-tenure political ambitions.

Otti dismissed the allegation, noting that differing opinions are a hallmark of democracy but emphasising that holding an opinion does not automatically make it correct.

He said he had repeatedly made his position clear that his political journey would end with his governorship, adding that he neither seeks higher office nor plans to return to elective politics after his tenure.

According to him, his focus is solely on fulfilling the mandate given to him by the people of Abia State, after which he intends to step aside for younger leaders.

Reacting to suggestions about an “Igbo presidency,” Otti said he does not subscribe to such narratives, insisting that any argument premised on his supposed future ambition is unfounded.

He concluded that once his mission as governor is completed, he will retire from politics entirely, making it clear that his name will not appear on any future ballot.
