Veteran entertainer and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charley Boy or Area Fada, has attributed the longevity of his 46-year marriage to patience, commitment and constant effort.
According to him, the relationship has endured not because it is flawless, but because he has learned to “manage” situations, even during moments when emotions run low. He explained that many people mistakenly assume he and his wife are endlessly in love, without understanding the work required to sustain a long-term union.
Charley Boy noted that while some admire their marriage and describe it as an ideal example or praise the idea of marrying one’s best friend, the reality is that no marriage is perfect or “made in heaven.”
He stressed that successful marriages are built through deliberate effort, commitment and continuous nurturing, describing marriage as fragile and something that must be worked on rather than simply found.
The entertainer also dismissed the notion that his marriage is free of challenges, saying that he constantly manages issues as they arise. He described himself as a “champion manager,” adding that even when he does not feel motivated, he keeps pushing to make the marriage work.
Charley Boy concluded by saying that he and his wife have made a firm decision to stay together for life, noting that perseverance has been key to sustaining their union over the decades.
