The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man, Lekan Lasisi, for allegedly shooting his stepbrother during a disagreement over a ₦4,000 debt in Abule Tuntun, Odeda Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred on December 19, following an argument linked to the deceased’s repeated failure to settle debts. According to police accounts, the dispute escalated after creditors allegedly confronted Lasisi and demanded payment of his stepbrother’s outstanding obligations.
In a video of his interrogation shared on social media on Monday, December 29, 2025, Lasisi said he became upset by the frequent embarrassment caused by his stepbrother’s unpaid debts. He claimed the confrontation turned violent when the deceased allegedly attempted to attack him with a cutlass.
Lasisi stated that he responded by bringing out a gun, explaining that he is a hunter, but insisted the firearm discharged accidentally, fatally injuring his stepbrother.
He narrated that earlier on the day of the incident, the deceased had gone to the market to sell goods. While heading to the bus stop, Lasisi said one of the creditors approached him to complain that his stepbrother still owed ₦4,000. When the deceased returned, Lasisi said he confronted him about the recurring debts and the shame it brought to the family, which led to the argument.
While admitting that the gun went off, Lasisi maintained that he had no intention of killing his stepbrother. He appealed to the government for leniency, citing his family’s circumstances, including their aged mother and another sibling who is reportedly ill.
Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Babseyi Oluseyi, said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, for further investigation.
He added that the incident occurred on December 19 and that investigations are ongoing.
